2017 BMW 5 Series Officially Official

The BMW 5 Series is a staple of the German brands range and is actually their most recognised model globally. This car has continuously set the benchmark in its class but with competition, both old and new, upping their game it is time for BMW to do the same. The other day we brought you leaked images of the all-new 2017 BMW 5 Series but today we have the official confirmation.

Set to make it debut at the Detroit Motor Show next year, this is the 2017 BMW 5 Series and its design is certainly more evolutionary than revolutionary. Its dimensions have indeed grown but the now chrome trimmed kidney grills and proportions are familiar. A chromed vent behind the wheel is reminiscent of its big brother, the 7 Series.

Links to the 7 Series are more than just skin deep as this car sits on a shortened version of the 7 Series platform. BMW still want this to be a drivers car, but there is a clear push upmarket with a technology orientated interior. There is more space on offer for occupants but also features such as gesture controlled infotainment and in-car wi-fi. Boot space grows to 530 litres.

Engines and drivetrain is largely unchanged offering a variety of petrol and diesel cars. Until the new M5 lands, the most potent model will be a 550d xDrive M Performance with 395bhp and 560lb ft of torque. That model is equipped with not one, not two, but four turbos! A 530e hybrid will join the range part way through next year.

We can’t wait to see what the 2017 BMW 5 Series is like to drive.
