2013 Shelby GT500 Cobra Is A Fitting Tribute

The motor industry fell silent this May at the news that legendary founder of the Shelby marque, Carroll Shelby, had passed away aged 89. Even in his twilight years the inspirational motoring icon remained committed to developing the best high performance cars. Only last year, he spent more than five hours putting the most powerful production Mustang ever through its paces during testing sessions at Ford’s Arizona Proving Grounds. Not one for a quiet retirement then.

Being instrumental in the creation of Ford’s greatest performance cars such as the Cobra, the GT40 and the Mustang since the 1960s, it seemed fitting that Ford, Shelby American and Ford Racing should come together to produce a one-of-a-kind tribute in his honour. The result has finally been unveiled as the 2013 Shelby GT500 Cobra wide-body Mustang which draws on the already considerable power of the 662BHP 2013 Shelby GT500 and turns it up a notch. The special edition gets a suitably colossal Ford Racing 4.0-litre supercharger that now generates more than 850BHP and enormous 13-inch wide rear wheels with high performance tyres to put down the increased power. The specially designed bonnet and new rear wide-body kit are finished in the distinctive blue with white stripes made famous by the original Cobras of the 1960’s, celebrating their 50th anniversary this year.

It seems apt that the new Cobra will be a never to be repeated one-off, mirroring the image of Carroll Shelby himself, who changed the performance world forever.

Carroll Shelby Dies

In automotive culture there are those figures that when their time to pass comes they leave a huge void.  Be it racing drivers such as Senna or great men like Enzo Ferrari, all were irreplaceable. Today it is my sad duty to notify you of another legendary motoring icon. Carroll Shelby has died.

American racing talent turned tuner, the man took on Ferrari with his Cobra and brought home the silverware. Thereafter Carroll became devoted to Ford’s pony car and his name quickly became the byword for Mustang. Shelby leaves behind a legacy and his devotion to his passion is something that many should look upon in awe.

R.I.P Carroll Shelby

Shelby 1000 Is The ULTIMATE Mustang

The Ford Mustang is an American icon. The pony car embodies bold engineering and a complete disregard for civilization. It is power first, second and third, occasionally followed by some nice seats. But the next notch up is the Shelby Mustang, some would call it the ultimate variant. If they are talking about the new 800BHP GT500 that can reach 200MPH you would think they were right, but not now. Not with the Shelby 1000.

Guess how much horsepower this beast has? Yep, no prizes, it has the full 1000BHP. As well as all that grunt for $200,000 you get a limited number car, stripped out interior, meatier brakes, stiffer suspension and race driveshaft. If you are 9 years old, we share the same excitement. Full details to follow at the cars debut in New York.

2013 Shelby GT500 Convertible Officially Drops Its Top

These days you can buy an open-top variation of almost any car. From Aston Martin’s Virage to Renaults baby Wind, there are many options to choose from if you fancy a slice of alfresco motoring. But what if your are a muscle car manic wanting all the BHP of the drag strip, whilst having the blue sky overhead? Shelby may just have something for you.

Welcome to the most powerful Mustang ever produced. Just like its coupe counterpart, the GT500 Convertible churns out a biblical 650BHP from a glorious 5.8 litre V8. That isn’t where these big numbers end, oh no… 600lb-ft of torque rips up the tarmac and Shelby have had to limit the top speed to 155MPH in a bid to save the roof from blowing away.

It is the worlds most powerful production V8 in the world and someone took a tin-opener to it!

Going… Going… GONE in 60 Seconds

The hero car of any film is something to admire. Be it the Duke boys Dodge Charger or one of the cheeky Minis from the original Italian Job, each machine has become immortalized on the big screen and produced a cult following. The Mustang has done this more than any other with its character that often outshone its co-stars. The film Gone in 60 Seconds cast a 1967 GT500 Mustang as the lead car and its inspirational chase scene cemented its place in the hall of fame. Now “Eleanor” could be all yours…

For filming 12 of these sleek beasts were produced but unfortunately due to the nature of the stunt scenes many were destroyed in action sequences. One of the few remaining examples is going under the hammer and is expected to fetch just over £100,000. Imagine you being in the same seat that Nicholas Cage once occupied blasting down the road just listening to that bellowing V8. It could all be yours, but at a cost.

SSC’s Bugatti Buster Launches Next Month

The Bugatti Veyron undoubtedly deservers it’s title of world’s fastest production car. For it can not only reach biblical speeds, 267MPH via the new Super Sports, but it is so refined that you could use it on a daily basis. SSC have once before beaten down the original Veyron by just a few MPH, and of course now that Bugatti hold the title again they want it back. In retaliation to the Super Sports they are launching a new car next month.

Details on the car are few and far between but we know designer Jason Castriota has been employed by the company. The new car will only exist in 12 forms and each is to carry a price tag of over £500,000. IF the car does manage to surpass the Veyron again only expect it to be by a few MPH as the laws of physics are now becoming an impenetrable barrier and obviously don’t expect the SSC to be as lavish or stable as the Bug. There is a very good reason why a Veyron costs more than double any SSC.

2011 Shelby Mustang GT in Motion

The 2011 Shelby Mustang GT is a huge step forwards in the evolution of the Mustang. Unlike previous model refreshes this one has an upgrade that is beneficial beyond measure, an aluminium block. This significantly reduces weight and as a result increased the cars overall responsiveness. The Mustang has always been a car we admired for its noise, design and heritage, but never for its handling.

Hopefully this new 2011 model, that has taken a trip to weight watchers, can change our opinion.  The Video certainly makes this pony car look more refined than its predecessor.
