Nobody truly knows what the future holds for the motor car at this point in time. Will it be hybrid drive or electric? The eventual outcome may be neither as scientists continue to innovate with hydrogen. Hydrogen is the most abundant source of fuel in the universe and so ecologically speaking it would be great news for Freddy polar bear if we were to use it. Aston Martin are to prove the new fuels advantages at the legendary Nürburgring 24 Hour endurance race.
The specially prepared Aston Martin Rapide S is equipped with a twin-turbo 6.0 litre V12 engine that is capable of running on petrol, hydrogen or a combination of the two. 0-62MPH can be achieved in 4.9 seconds and it will continue onto a top speed of 190MPH. This car will be the first of its breed to run in an endurance motorsport event. As organisers continue to pursue “greener” avenues when it comes to motor racing, Aston Martin could well be giving us a glimpse into the future.
