Vauxhall Insignia VXR SuperSport Does 170MPH

The Vauxhall Insignia was launched in 2008 to replace the Vectra. Though its design was one worth commending and its function of trawling motorways well accomplished, it doesn’t offer much in the way of driving dynamics. The VXR model changed this and previewed a slightly crazy and mischievous side to the brand that had more recently produced the Astra VXR, a machine that should arrive at dealers with an ASBO. Well, they have now gone even further by taking the Insignia and turning it up to, not 11, try 15!

This bruiser thanks to some under the skin fettling is now capable of 170MPH. That is crazy when you think of what sort of caliber of car the Insignia now has to face. For £29,995 it undercuts things such as the BMW M5 and the current Insignia VXR. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think prospective BMW buyers will change there mind and buy this instead, but it does get you thinking. Dubbed the SuperSport, it replaces the standard VXR all together offering much greater performance at a lower price. A 2.8 litre V6 turbocharged engine is the cause of all the fuss and in tandem with the cars AWD systems it can accelerate occupants to 60MPH in just 5.6 seconds.

2013 Nissan GT-R Gets Even Faster

The Nissan GT-R isn’t so much a car, but a technological showcase of what can happen when you give some of the greatest minds in engineering the resources of Nissan. The GT-R in its current generation has been with us since 2007 and with each new model year comes a few tweaks that makes the car even more focused. The 2012 car pulled a real ace from up its sleeve by dropping its 0-62MPH time to just 2.8 seconds. This MY2013 car gets even faster!

Power from the GT-R’s twin-turbocharged 3.8 litre V6 remains the same at 550BHP, but thanks to refining this already successful formula you can get to 62MPH from standing 0.1 seconds faster. Let us think about that for a moment… 0-62MPH in 2.7 seconds in a car that seats four and has Nissan reliability. This package can complete a lap of the Nürburgring in 7 minutes and 18 seconds, 3 seconds a lap faster than its predecessor. This extra performance comes thanks to new injectors, a new relief valve for the turbos and an improved oil pan baffle to aid oil pressure. Out of the engine bay the suspension set-up has been fettled with and other components strengthened. Also the front bracing has been strengthened.

The 2013 Nissan GT-R goes on sale spring 2013.

There is a wide variety of options and for our specific car we chose this rather stormy grey with matching hood. What engine did we go for? Well as the original E-Type is most sought after in Series 1 guise the V6 in this car could become a future classic. Inside our dark theme continues throughout the cockpit that is also garnished with some red stitching to match the calipers.

Jaguar F-Type Officially Official

It has been 51 very long years since the Jaguar E-Type blew peoples minds both in terms of performance and design. “The most beautiful car in the world” commented the legendary Enzo Ferrari… Low, sleek and fast! The E-Type was the quickest car money could by when it was new and was by far the most technologically advanced. In 1974 it met its end and with no successor in place the world forgot what a performance focused Jaguars were all about. But now after months of being teased, here is the Jaguar F-Type.

Well Jaguar certainly got the styling right! It is achingly beautiful, particularly looking at it from its short sloping rear. This car more than rekindles old fires, it sticks a lump of plastic explosive into the mix. Brimming with the latest technology, the cockpit is extremely driver focused and enjoys the fantastic Jaguar design elements from its siblings. The F-Type comes in three flavors; F-Type, F-Type S and the F-Type V8 S. The all aluminium body comes only as a convertible, a couple will follow at a later date. The F-Type and F-Type S are powered by Jaguars new supercharged 3.0 litre V6 that produces 380BHP and 339lb-ft of torque. The V8 S uses, you guessed it, a V8. The supercharged 5.0 litre cranks out 495BHP and 460lb-ft of torque. 0-60MPH in the V8 is done and dusted in just 4.2 seconds, not to mention its electronically limited top speed of 186MPH.

To be priced below the Porsche 911, the F-Type has indeed matched the hype.

Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo Turns From Ugly Duckling into Swan

The Porsche Panamera is a brilliant machine in terms of its function. The super saloon goes like a bat out of hell whilst accommodating more than two adults in high levels of luxury. As a piece of engineering it is beautiful. As a piece of design? The vast majority would liken it to Frankenstien’s monster, however, the Paris motor show sets the scene for a transformation.

The long awaited “shooting brake” variant of the Panamera has made its debut. Named the Sport Turismo, this concept reveals what the production version is set to look like. Its gorgeously sculpted body really is a work of art. Under the bonnet is a 333BHP V6 that is paired with a 95BHP plug-in electric motor. Despite its good dosage of power the concept can achieve emissions of under 82g/km. Inside the maze of knobs and switches has been replaced with a touch screen display that is mounted to a steep center console.

We’ll take two…

You Thought Lotus Couldn’t Get Any More Power Out The Exige? You Were wrong

Twelve years ago, a group of unshaven, plaid wearing, ale glugging blokes gave birth to the first Lotus Exige in a garage in Norfolk. Little did these men know that what they had created was a car that would leave some of the most expensive Ferraris and Astons in the dust. Over time, this small, wooden garage in Norfolk became a larger, metal garage in Norfolk and with this came the birth of some of the most exciting variants of the original Exige that left us wondering how on Earth those mentalists at Lotus were going to extract any more power from this machine.

Now in 2012, on the weekend of the Lotus Festival at Brand’s Hatch, it has been announced that a new hardcore version of the Exige is being produced. It’s being called the Exige V6 Cup and is available as a track day car and a competition car. The grunt in this thing comes from the 346 bhp 3.5-litre supercharged V6 that you can also find in the Lotus Exige S. It’s been claimed that this new model is more than capable of reaching 62 mph in 3.5 seconds and has a top speed of 170 mph. This is all capable because the car only weighs 1080kg.

Lotus have thrown everything at this car, giving it the ‘Lotus Dynamic Performance Management’ system, a set of Piralli P-Zero Trofeo tyres, multi-adjustable suspension and an aero-optimised front splitter. Customers are also able to choose to pay extra for a roll cage, FIA-approved fire extinguisher, special sport race seats, and even a detachable steering wheel just in case you want to have a go at being Jensen Button.

Production of the V6 Cup will start in December with 15-20 cars supposedly being produced up until March 2013. If you are in the market for one of these lighting Lotuses then prepare to shell out £62,995 for the Track Day model and £74,995 for the even more terrifying Competition model which has been designed especially to compete in the Lotus Cup championships across Europe, Asia and the Americas.

Jaguar F-Type To Pounce At Paris Motor Show

The world has looked to Jaguar for a true E-Type successor for decades now. The machine that is arguably the most beautiful in the world captivated the public not only with its looks, but also with its performance. Jaguar announced the F-Type months ago and ever since the automotive world has been all a buzz. Now we learn that the Paris motor show gets yet another point of intrigue.

After months of camouflaged tearer images and video, the big cat is finally taking the dust sheet off of the production F-Type. Initially only to be available as a convertible, the new car will compete directly with Porsche’s 911 whilst undercutting the Germans price significantly. Engines will range from an all-new V6 to a 5.0 litre V8.

Sleepless nights commence…

So you are looking to buy a luxury German estate? Audi SQ5 TDI To Take On Diesel M Cars

Audi and BMW have been at each others throats from day one. Like two siblings with an extreme rivalry, one does not like to be outdone by the other. BMW has recently opened up its world famous M car division to diesel engines. The performance badge has already churned out a range of cars powered by a triplet of turbos fused to an oil-burner. Audi have stepped up to unveil their first performance diesel named the SQ5.

Based upon the Q5, the SQ5 TDI is the first diesel in Audi’s range to posses an S badge and a diesel motor. The motor in question is a twin-turbo 3.0 lire that produces 313BHP and an incredible 479lb-ft of torque. The premium soft-roader will complete the 0-62MPH dash in 5 seconds flat and go onto an electronically limited top speed of 155MPH. Swapping cogs comes courtesy of an 8 speed Tiptronic transmission.

The SQ5 will arrive in European dealerships in early 2013.

2012 Chrysler 300C, More Than Meets The Eye?

When you think luxury saloon, particularly in Europe, you tend to think of the Germans. Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz have all calved up a considerable chunk in this particular automotive sector. Some wouldn’t even consider anything other than a product from the big three, but what other alternatives are out there? What about something a little more stateside?

The 2012 Chrysler 300C, after further research, appears to be much more than your traditional yank-tank. The brand is making a real effort to come through in Europe as a luxury icon that can stand on par with the best in class, the 300C goes a long way to make the point. Going on sale in the UK on 14th June, the 300C offers just the one engine option  though that is no bad thing as the 3.0 litre V6 turbo diesel is equipped with Fiat’s MultiJet 2 technology. Inside the cabin is upholstered with high grades of leather and garnished with many toys that you would expect to see on the options list as standard. 8.4 inch touchscreen display, Bluetooth, dual-zone climate control and 18 inch alloy wheels all impress. The previously mentioned screen is part of the electronic heart in this machine named Uconnect. The infotainment system takes care of all on-board connections and entertainment including BlueTooth syncing for phones, DVD player as well as the SD card reader. One particular feature I like the look of is the dimming mirrors that reduce the headlight glare of cars behind. Chrysler went to the effort of studying the 300C’s key competitors in a true effort to improve quality. The American firms new ties with Fiat means that the cars manufacture in Canada is to a very high standard.

This 2012 model also offers much in the way of performance as that twin-turbo V6 pack 236BHP which is more than enough to propel the car from 0-62MPH in just 7.4 seconds. But Chrysler have also focused on emissions and as a result CO2 figures are as low as 185g/km. Fuel consumption sits at an impressive 39.8 MPG showing that the 300C is to buck the trend and avoid being branded a “gas guzzler.” The transmission is a 5 speed automatic that also offers a semi-automatic feature for when the mood to get more involved with the drive take you.

Can Chrysler’s new 300C take on the best of Europe? Find out more, I know we will… Order a Test Drive now.
