Alfa Romeo Stelvio SUV Takes Aim at F Pace

Alfa Romeo have some very ambitious plans afoot. After years of producing cars that borrowed very heavily from its Fiat parent company, the legendary brand for petrol heads is getting the attention it deserves. The Giulia 3 Series rival has received rave reviews and even sports a potent V6 model to take on the M3. Now the Italians are taking aim at the F Pace and Porsche Macan. This is the Alfa Romeo Stelvio.

Isn’t it gorgeous?! What a beautiful machine and exactly what an Alfa Romeo SUV should look like. Curvaceous but muscular, civilised but intriguing. The car has a notable rake from nose to tale of which conveys a sense of motion even when standing still. The headline Quadrifoglio model looks evil in this specification with black contrasting alloy wheels, quad exhaust pipes, and a stance filled with attitude.

Said Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio is powered by the same 2.9 litre bi-turbo V6 engine as its Giulia sibling. 503 BHP and 443lb ft of torque is sent to all four wheels via an 8 speed automatic gearbox. 0-60 MPH takes just 5.4 seconds. In perfect conditions power goes to the rear, but any loss of traction splits it 50/50. The interior also heavily borrows from the Giulia Quadrifoglio.

Other engine options will be available including a 2.0 litre petrol and 2.2 litre diesel.

Pricing has yet to be announced for the Alfa Romeo Stelvio, but we are already preparing to give our right arm to sample one. Jaguar and Porsche should be worried.
