Koenigsegg One:1 Crashes at the Nurburgring

The Nurburgring is an intense assault on the senses and a real challenge for any driver regardless of experience. Many have fallen fowl of “the green hell” including a few famed racing drivers. If you attend one of the tracks opens day you soon realise that track closures for accidents are not unusual. Typically they are minor run-ins with a barrier from some driving their car a little over enthusiastically, but every now and then there is a big shunt. Yesterday it was the unfortunate turn of a very rare Koenigsegg One:1 coming together with a barrier.

The Koenigsegg One:1 is a hyper car that competes with the likes of LaFerrari and the McLaren P1. As the name suggests, it has a power to weight ratio of one to one making it extremely fast thanks to a power output of 1,322 BHP. The Swedish company say that their car will do over 273 MPH and generate over 2G through the corners. It is a serious car and so the Nurburgring would appear to be the perfect place to open the taps.

Sadly that dream lap didn’t come together for one particular Koenigsegg One:1. Coming off at Adenauer Forst, it hit the barrier. and eventually went through it, before coming to a stop. As you can see from the video, the car is a wreck. Thankfully all involved were unharmed.

A statement from Koenigsegg has coloured in some of the details for us. The driver was one of their own conducting tests on the car in preparation for setting lap times. It suggest that it may have been driver error.

Just 7 Koenigsegg One:1 were built making this quite a costly mistake.
