Bentley have announced full details of the all new Bentley Bentayga SUV, which they are claiming will take their trademark luxury to new places as they redefine the segment. Designed, engineered and handcrafted in Crewe, the Bentayga features a new W12 powertrain which makes it the most powerful SUV in the world and despite having a larger stance, it is still unmistakably a Bentley. The four circular headlights, trademark matrix grille and muscular stance are all features that one would expect from the premium brand.

The twin-turbocharged 6.0-litre W12 power plant sits at the heart of this new SUV. 600bhp and 663 lb. ft of torque is enough to propel it from 0-62mph in just 4.1 seconds and it will continue to accelerate all the way to it’s top speed of 187mph, meaning it is the fastest SUV on the planet. Bentley claim this new engine is 11.9% more efficient then the W12 previously used in Bentleys, predominately thanks to start-stop and a cylinder deactivation system, but still only returns 22.1mpg.

The impressive performance we have become accustom to with the manufacturer only tells half the story with a Bentley, however – as they seek to bring their customers one of the most luxurious and premium driving environments on the market. A precisely and meticulously designed interior features metal, wood and leather detailing throughout as well as innovative technological features.

Bentley have aimed to enhance safety, comfort and convenience for the driver and occupants using state-of-the-art infotainment and driver assistance systems. Up to eight on and off road driving settings are available through Bentley’s Drive Dynamics Mode and optional Responsive Off-Road Setting. Drivers are able to select their settings through a dial for any surface and road condition. Whilst off road, the driver is given a wide range of information such as steering angle, compass bearing and altitude.

Back on normal urban roads, the Bentayga offers a range of driver aid systems including Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Predictive Cruise Control and Traffic Assist allows the car to maintain a set distance from the vehicle in front and uses navigation, cameras and sensors to modify the car’s speed for the upcoming environment. There is also safety systems as the driver’s disposal such as Traffic Sign Recognition, Rear Crossing Traffic Warning, and Top View – which uses four cameras to give a full view of the car’s surroundings. Park Assist is also available on the new Bentayga as well as electronic night vision and a Head-Up Display.

In the front there is an 8” touchscreen infotainment system and rear occupants benefit from the introduction of the Bentley Entertainment Tablet – a 10.2” Android device which is removable and comes with 4G, WiFi and Bluetooth.

The new Bentley Bentayga is available with 20”, 21” and 22* alloys and a two or three rear seat configuration, whilst a seven seat setup is in the pipelines for the future. This Bentayga will most likely be Crewe’s first plug-in hybrid later on it’s life as well, as demand grows in markets such as China.

Prices will start at £160,200, which is more than luxury SUV competitors such as Range Rover and Porsche, but Bentley are very keen to point out the opulence, power and elegance of the new Bentayga which they say is unparalleled, means they can enter this market and be successful.
