The Brazilian GP marks the penultimate race for the 2014 Formula One World championship and the title battle is between two men. Mercedes’ dominance this year had been a exercise in efficiency when it comes to design, as such it is both of their drivers that are now in the running for the title. It must be said that over the past few races Hamilton has had an edge over Rosberg, but this race it was the Brit who blinked first.
Lights out and the Silver arrows shot out of their grid slots for the opening of the Brazilian GP. Rosberg on pole retained the lead going into the first corner. Both Williams, again exceptionally competitive, gave chase. Hamilton gradually applied pressure and when his German counterpart pitted he attempted to make up time to leapfrog him. However, pushing too hard resulted in an off-track excursion which cost him time. He apologised over the radio to the team for his mistake. Meanwhile Red Bull’s Daniel Riccardo retired due to suspension failure. After some stellar driving from Lewis Hamilton he closed down the gap dramatically on Nico Rosberg by lap 41. After a mistake from Bottas in his Williams it was Massa who was clearly in contention for a big points haul. Ultimately he finished third after a solid drive, even if he did accidentally pull up into the wrong pit box. McLaren’s Jenson Button also finished a strong fourth. The final lap of the race saw both Mercedes neck and neck but it was Rosberg who took the flag… Just.
The final race shall decide who will become the 2014 world champion.
