I don’t think anybody who has ever driven an Ariel Atom has got out of the drivers seat thinking it wasn’t quite fast enough. The flyweight road legal track attack is a pure performance car though and through giving many supercars a run for their money. A production run of V8 powered Atoms represents the British companies ultimate incarnation, but now is the time to give some love to the 2.0 litre model that started it all. This is the new Ariel Atom 3.5R.
Pinching the six-speed sequential gearbox from its bigger V8 brother, the Ariel Atom 3.5R still gets its power from a supercharged Honda Civic Typre-R 2.0 litre engine. Thanks to an increase in boost and new sidepods that house larger intercoolers, it now produces 350HP and revs to an epic 8,400RPM. Torque is also up to 253lb ft. These increases in performance allow the Atom 3.5R to do the 0-60MPH dash in a staggering 2.5 seconds and 0-100MPH in 6 seconds. Aerodynamic revisions have also been made to improve stability through the corners along with adjustable springs and dampers.
The new Ariel Atom 3.5R will set you back £80,000.
