Two years ago, we were bowled over by a machine that knocked the world of luxury motoring sideways and clean out of its winged armchair. The Bentley Bentayga not only shot straight to the top of the tree as the world’s most opulent SUV but also gave some thoroughbred sports cars a run for their money by clocking a top speed of 187 mph. The fastest SUV money can buy has now fallen under the gaze of the British marque’s in-house personal commissioning division, Mulliner, whose master craftsman have been tasked with creating the ultimate flagship Bentley. This is what they’ve come up with…
Whilst the signature form of the 2016 Bentayga hasn’t gone under the knife, subtle changes abound inside and out. For the first time, the Bentayga is coated with two-tone paintwork that’s due to be rolled out across the whole range in April. Before then, this ‘Duo Tone’ design is exclusively the preserve of the Mulliner edition, whose 22” wheels feature a new bespoke design. Bright lower bumper grilles upfront freshen-up the Bentayga’s already unmistakable face but it is inside where the Mulliner stamp is most evident.
The cabin retains the sort of standard spec that would put most private jets to shame but now comes equipped with a few notable extras. Under the Mulliner banner, the Bentayga gains two-tone leather upholstery to complement the exterior colour scheme plus a rear-mounted bottle cooler with illuminated chilling cabinet and bespoke crystal champagne flutes.
Six-way adaptable mood-lighting brightens the interior, as do the Mulliner’s bespoke illuminated tread plates, whilst a new twenty-speaker stereo system pumps out a symphony of sound that rivals the glassware in its crystal clarity. Other more practical additions include a parking heater that keeps the cabin toasty even with the engine off plus electric rear window blinds and a double sun-visor for cruising through more tropical climes. The usual array of driver assist systems are joined by an innovative world-first in the form of Dynamic Ride, whose electronic wizardry is able to control and stabilise body roll when cornering.
All those goodies not enough to satisfy your lust for luxury? Then why not push the boat out by adorning your Bentayga Mulliner’s interior with a solid gold Tourbillon clock – if only to give a rather more literal spin on the phrase ‘time is money’.
The Bentley Bentayga Mulliner edition, the new pinnacle of SUV opulence, retains the same monstrous 600bhp 6.0-litre W12 engine that powers the super SUV from 0-60 mph in a near reality-defying 4.0 seconds. If your pockets are of the cavernous variety, you’ll be delighted to know that this very limited production flagship Bentley will be available to order from Spring 2017. Before you all scramble for your chequebooks, however, be sure to catch a glimpse of Bentley’s special one-off example of the Bentayga Mulliner at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show later this month.
