The new BMW M4 is a real weapon by which most sports coupes measure themselves. It takes more than just a ham-fisted amount of power to step out of that cars shadow, but the performance coupe segment sees more and more combatants every year. At the 2016 North American International Auto Show in Detroit another manufacturer has thrown its hat into the ring. The Buick Avista concept car brings American muscle into a much more civilised age.
Buick have been known for some serious muscle cars in the past, but they know that it takes more than 1/4 mile times to sell cars. Taking a good look at European competition such as the C63 AMG coupe, RS5, and M4, the Buick Avista is a rather handsome coupe that replaces brute force with a bit of elegance. Its flowing silhouette features a large mesh grill and slender lights. Inside the modern cockpit seats four and implements touchscreen surfaces. 3D printing has also been used for some of the Buick Avista interior trim.
Under the bonnet is a turbocharged 3.0 litre V6 engine that churns out 400 BHP. That power is then sent rearward via an 8 speed automatic transmission.
No performance figures have been given, but we would expect them to be competitive as there is mention of respectable weight saving techniques in the press release.
