The Beijing Auto Show is about to get into full swing. Clearly a hugely significant date in the diaries of Far Eastern manufacturers keen to showcase the very best the continent has to offer, Beijing also serves as a springboard for Europe’s finest names to impress their discerning Asian clientele in some of the world’s richest auto markets.

Step up DS, who arrive in China’s second city with a package full of Parisian élan exclusively for the Chinese market.

The new DS 4S premium hatchback takes its place on the roster besides the brand’s existing trio of models available in Chinese dealerships; the DS 5 hatch, the  DS 5 LS saloon and the DS 6 premium SUV.

Slotting in as the most compact DS yet offered in this part of the world, the 4S largely mirrors its European-spec equivalent save for a longer, more prominent version of the DS Wings grille which cuts through the LED Vision front headlamps.

From launch, DS 4S gets an exclusive new Dark Fire red body colour, whose design is mirrored by the cabin’s striking red leather upholstery. Trim around the dashboard and door panels is covered in high-grade leather whilst the DS 4S’s five seats are given a fetching watchstrap-style finish. DS Connect gadgetry, comprising of navigation, safety and communication features, naturally comes as standard in the infotainment package.

Equipped with automatic transmission, the DS 4S will be available with a three-tier range of petrol powertrains, producing between 136hp and 204hp.

The DS 4S will have lift-off in in China following its official public debut at the 2016 Beijing Auto Show on the 25 April, where it will share the stage with a scale replica of DS’s DSV-01 Formula E racer.
