This lean and certainly very mean machine is the new Mercedes AMG GT R, at this point in time the ultimate evolution of the much loved AMG GT. This is what happens if you take that car, pump it full of testosterone, and tell it to go and live at the Nurburgring. The infamous “Green Hell” is where much of this cars development has been done leading to what Mercedes are claiming to be a more involving and dynamic driving experience.
Under the bonnet is the same “hot V” turbocharge V8 engine but now power is up to 577bhp and 516lb ft of torque accompanies it. That is a boot of 74BHP and 37lb ft over the GT S. This comes thanks to brand new turbos and reworked engine mapping. Wider, lower, and lighter, the AMG GT R will do 0-62 mph in 3.6 seconds.
An aggressive aerodynamic package that incorporates active elements under the car produces 155kg of downforce at its top speed of 198MPH. Carbon fibre bracing has been added to increase rigidity but also keep the weight down. Extensive reworking and reengineering of the suspension, along with rear wheel steering, means that this car is well equipped to take on the Porsche 911 GT3 RS. This Mercedes-AMG GT R will race up the hill at this weekends Goodwood Festival of Speed.
The interior gets the carbon fibre and alcantara treatment, as well as new sports seats.
This menacing Mercedes AMG GT R goes on sale in November for a yet to be specified price. The good news for buyers desperate to get their hands on one is that production will not be limited with the GT R permanently joining the AMG GT lineup.
