Happy Independence Day to all of our American readers! 4th July celebrations are already in full swing and to celebrate the star spangled banner we have put together our top 5 muscle cars that are perfect to gain you some independence. As the founding nation of the muscle car there were a lot to choose from both old and new.
5. 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454
The Chevrolet Chevelle has become a consistent character in recent Fast and Furious films, but it was famed long before then. A 454 example was the most powerful muscle car of its era. Blunt nose, sweeping roofline, and an engine note that foreshadowed the gates of hell itself opening.
4. 1970 Plymouth Hemi ‘Cuda
The dual carburettor, 426 cubic inch Hemi under the elongated bonnet of this ‘Cuda was really something special. 425HP from its V8 would finish off most production cars in a standing quarter mile in the 70’s, and you have to admit, that shaker hood looks menacing!
3. Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat
Time for some modern muscle! This 2015 Hellcat is well deserving of its name packing 707HP! A 6.4 litre Hemi serves as its beating heart and the “bad boy” image appeals greatly to the 6 year old inside all of us.
2. Chevrolet Camaro
The Camaro is an icon… Ultimate rival to the Mustang for decades. The classic cars are just as charming as the modern muscle reincarnations. We love how there is still a place for these cars today just as there was back when kids raced them between telephone poles.
1. Ford Mustang
Again, a true four wheeled embodiment of the American spirit. Throughout the ages Mustang has been the performance car that everyone could own. Just like Camero, it has had its up and downs over the years, but examples such as the fastback of Bullet fame are coveted. We tested the all-new 2016 Ford Mustang in glorious 5.0 litre V8 guise, a car that is now sold in right hand drive, and found ti to be a lot of fun.
